Q & A with the landowner

Q. What have you done with your land since you purchased it?

I didn't do anything with the land to start with – I didn't even mow it! 2 years after buying the land I employed the services of a planning consultant and submitted a planning application.

Q. What challenges have you faced?

The local Council! They messed me around a lot and rejected my application as, I believe, it was the easiest decision for them to make. Undeterred I appealed the decision and actually found the appeal process much easier. After nearly two years my appeal was allowed and I was granted planning permission.

Q. What advice would you give to other landowners?

If you're going for planning on agricultural land, be realistic. Then stick to your guns and don't give up!
